It was in Bavaria that I saw the most beautiful and awe-inspiring Maypoles. Maypoles there tend to be permanent fixtures in village squares and are decorated often with intricate ornamental displays. A wreath either of real flowers or made from metal usually 'crowns' the Maypole.
